First, I love that there’s a wide range of places mentioned in this book! Each one of them is outlined with specific images, culture/lifestyle examples, and even a bit of financial information. Classifying them as beach or mountain-focused areas (or sometimes a bit of both) is also extremely helpful because people generally at least have an idea of what their ideal place will look like. The balance of popular and underrated or unexpected places is nice as well.The sectioning of the chapters is mostly clear, though some of them can bleed into the others—this is a good thing, in my opinion! I feel that kind of structure makes the book flow and also reminds the reader that every chapter is tied into the ones before and after it. Similarly, I feel that the areas touched on (i.e. culture, living expenses, entertainment/activities/etc, appearance, and more) create a broad lens for the book. By focusing on these main elements, leaving the emotional element for last, a nice transition is generated from logic to doing what the reader feels is right. It aligns with a motto I’ve adopted: ‘Follow your heart but take your mind with you.’Overall, it’s a very thought-provoking book! Even for someone like myself who’s only in her mid-twenties, I’ve thought about where I would want to live (both regarding retirement and in general). It does remind me that I need to at least think about retirement every once in a while—to be able to plan for a future where I may not have to work if I play my cards right.
